“I thought about it but…”

“what if the reason I get so upset when Dad says something about me….”

“…is because I know he’s right? He has been so far.”

“I am a slob”

“I do have horrible eyesight”

“I do wear my pajamas too much”

“I… am a disappointment. Because I’m not… accepting this dumb research apprentice stuff…”

“gosh… I… I really suck. I’m pathetic.”

“Why aren’t I strong like Jun…”

“Or… confident and stuff like Hikari”

“I’m just a hairy, smelly, sweaty nerd who can’t do anything.”

“Just… a living generic-brand encyclopedia no one even uses and finds annoying because I’m not the actual thing. I’m a knock off.”

combusken:

Things Lucas will act cool about but freak out about later:

People mentioning his:

  • cheeks (FACE ONES YOU TURDS. he realized how big they were a few years back and it’s really just baby fat he can’t seem to get rid of. bothers him a lot.)
  • weight in general (he actually isn’t overweight at all, in fact he’s a twig and has no muscle either… but he’s very insecure about it nonetheless!! not to the point of having a disorder, though)
  • height (he IS one of the shortest protags, man)
  • glasses (If he’s caught wearing them. Nowadays he went with what his dad wanted and got contacts. He squints a LOT however.)
  • people calling him ‘cute’. (He’ll deny and stutter a bit after the mention… but once he’s by his lonesome he gushes into a blushing spree of happiness)
  • compliments in general. (His ego isn’t that big in the first place… but it gets inflated real easily like a cheap balloon. It pops just as easily, though.)

His dad or little sister noticing/critiquing something about him.

—-

Things he will automatically freak out about… that he notices at least:

Facial hair.

Spiders.

Heights.

Deep Water. (Can’t swim worth a shit)

The dark.

Cats (He likes cats. a lot.)

Lucas was a big nerd before he met hikari and jun.

He wore grandpa glasses and baggy plaid shirts.

the works.

he didn’t wear braces though his teeth didn’t need em.

: ) good thing he was pretty much homeschooled by his strict as hell father.

Sometimes… something just clicks in Lucas’ head. Just… a sudden burst of intelligence. This is part of the reason he was able to even be an apprentice to the Professor. If it weren’t for it, he’d probably just be a cooped up, fat, pokemon obsessing nerd (AKA Pokemaniac… which we all know hikari hates. wink wink). He can’t really control said moments but when he’s like it you better shut your trap or he will smart mouth you. If you don’t talk you’ll get along just fine with him until he lets out his creative juices.

Like I said, he has a moment of intelligence out of his seemingly dopey demeanor. It mostly occurs when he observes a battle or encounters a Pokemon he hasn’t encountered personally. He’ll just start rambling on and on about the Pokemon or the battle. Spewing out the type weaknesses and advantages, the move sets, anything. He becomes one giant, annoying, talking encyclopedia. But… as I also mentioned, he gets a bit snarky. He’ll correct you and probably put you down a lot.

Lucas isn’t particularly aware of these happenings until he realizes he insulted someone. You could say this is the Lucas when he was cooped up in his house and the lab all day studying like a mad man. Before he could go on field trips with the Professor (Which actually first started when Hikari and Jun started their own journey) he was pretty much inside all day and just read books while helping care for the Pokemon in the lab.

Lucas has a habit of snacking. He isn’t usually self-aware of it until he notices 3 chip bags in his room. This has brought him into being self-conscious of his eating habits. He isn’t gluttonous (at least not as much as his Manga counterpart) but he depends on food a lot. Mostly when he’s embarrassed or upset about something is when he snacks the most. To put it simply he has a comfort food problem.

He’s also a bit touchy at the mention of insults. He isn’t the best at socializing in the first place and knowing someone doesn’t think too highly about him just makes him feel really bad when around said someone. Like he doesn’t get up to their standards, somewhat. An example would be when Ethan called him a penguin.Lucas took it as an insult at first instead of an endearing term. He even went as far as to over-think it and assume Ethan meant he was fat.

Lucas loves to cook…. well, bake. He makes poffins and it calms him down after a long day. He doesn’t exactly pride himself in it, but he has to admit he finds it to be one of the only things he can do without his klutzy behaviour kicking in. The other one being contests.

He doesn’t ‘enjoy’ participating in contests, persay, but his Lopunny does. He usually visits Hearthome city once a week to put her in one. There’s a couple of reasons Lucas doesn’t like contests.

First one being attention. He doesn’t like being in the spotlight, despite how upset he looks in the shadows, because he feels like he’ll slip up at any time… and that could result in a snack food binge from embarrassment. Which, surprise, he also doesn’t like after he’s eaten his fill.

The second reason is suits. He feels like he can’t pull off wearing a suit and just ends up looking kiddie or something. He’s chalked it up to the assumption that it’s because of his cheeks. They make it look like his head doesn’t fit on his body and with the suit being skin-tight it just shows more. This is the reason he wears his scarf so high up and loose, too. He just feels completely awkward about his body and wishes he didn’t look so… off in his eyes.

Despite his worries he actually does pretty well in contests. Not as good as Fantina or anything, but it’s pretty much natural. Doesn’t mean he still doesn’t like them though… just because of how he always second guesses himself for every little thing.

Pearl worries a lot about Dia. A whole lot. He feels as if it’s his #1 responsibility to take care of him. Even though it doesn’t look like that with all his smacking and yelling at him. It’s just his way of showing he cares.

Dia is actually one of the few people Pearl will ever tell things to. Pearl tells him almost everything and trusts Dia 110% with anything he says to him.

Speaking of those types of things, Pearl has many ‘secret’s which really shouldn’t be secrets in the first place.

The first one involving his dad. He isn’t fond of him all that much, even though he seems to talk about him a bit. It’s mostly because he misses him, but at the same time is upset that he left him alone in Twinleaf town in the first place. However, when he talks about him he still says his childish “Daddy”, it’s a habit he has yet to break ever since he was 4.

Because of the sole reason he dad never visits HIM, he hates a lot of family holidays, too. The main ones being Thanksgiving and Christmas. He tries not to show it to Dia so the kid can have his own fun, but it gets a little hard to contain after a while. He usually ends up telling Dia he has to go home and isn’t coming down for Christmas and he stays holed up in his room the whole day.

It concerned Dia the first few times, but after 5 or so years he got used to it and decided not to ask what was keeping Pearl down in the dumps. So, as far as Dia knows, Pearl still idolizes his dad.

Since I rambled about that, the Second one is his scarf. Pearl loves his scarf a lot. He was given it, and he loves it as much as his best friend. If you so much as singe it he’ll kick your ass up and down the block. He bought Dia a similar scarf just so  they could match with each other.

Pearl also likes to hang out at Dia’s if he can, having frequent sleepovers, almost to the point of sleeping over every other night. He treats Ayako like his own mom sometimes. However he still calls her “Dia’s Mom” to pound it in his own head that she isn’t his real mom. He doesn’t know whether she died or just left his dad. He doesn’t really care anymore, though.
